My 5th graders were thrilled to have Heather visit our classroom. As she read the first chapter of Indigo and Ida, they were completely engaged and couldn’t wait to discuss it. She wove the experiences of the characters in the story into the lives of my students and made connections between the characters’ lives and their lives that were so valuable. She took time to answer all of their questions, both about the role of an author and about the problems that the characters faced and what they could do in similar situations. They were so disappointed when she had to leave, they would’ve loved to visit with her for hours!
